How Light Travels

Light does not travel. It is Τλ — the field of time ringing from address to address, at the rate the local register turns. And that rate — the speed of light — is the rate you fall.

Light Does Not Travel

Richard Feynman gave two of the clearest talks ever delivered on light, and both ended in the same honest place: the mathematics is exact, and yet no one can say what the photon is doing between the lamp and the eye. The Universal Force of Time answers that, and then carries the answer through the whole behaviour of light. What we call a travelling beam is Τλ — the single field of time, expressed at one address, lighting up the places it addresses in order. There is no little traveller in flight and no empty space to cross. The field is already present at every address between the lamp and the wall; the lamp sets one address ringing, and that ringing passes from address to neighbouring address, each lighting up in turn — the way a stadium wave crosses a crowd though every spectator only stands and sits.

Two words borrowed from water and billiard balls — and, Feynman admitted, the thing itself answers to neither. Physics has the mathematics exact and the object unnamed, and mistook the gap for randomness.

A flow of time that spreads like a wave while it travels and arrives at one address like a particle — because that is exactly what a redistribution between lattice addresses does. Wave and particle were two shadows of one object.

The Speed of Light Is the Rate You Fall

Here is the heart of it. The rate at which the field of time flows inward through the ground — the surface free-fall, the rate you fall — is 9.817477042468 metres per second, every second, which on the lattice is 25π/8. Square that rate and carry it up through the gears of a single day — multiply by 864, the day-operator, and by 3600, the seconds in an hour — and it lands, exactly, on the speed of light at the surface register. No rounding, no fitting.

What holds your feet to the ground and what carries starlight across a galaxy are one quantity of time — read once as an acceleration at the surface, once as a speed through the sky. This is the same result that runs through The Four Clocks of the Earth.

Light Has No Single Speed

Science fixes the speed of light at one number, defined since 1983. The Force of Time says light has no single speed at all: it is a property of the field, and it takes an exact value at each register — a family of speeds spaced by the same fixed step that spaces every register in the theory. The one science quotes is the reading from the register our instruments sit in, halfway between two faces.

The constancy everyone measures is no conspiracy of clocks: the speed of light is the tempo of the field, shared by all who stand in a register, because light was never a racer to be added to your own motion — it is the rate the field sounds its addresses.

Colour Is an Address, Not a Slide

Colour is not a smooth ramp but a row of exact addresses, and the key is startling: a wavelength in nanometres is a degree angle, directly. Read a boundary as an angle in degrees, turn it to radians, and a clean lattice value falls out. The whole visible band spans exactly π²/5 = 1.973920880 — the range a human eye can see is one lattice number wide. The photoelectric effect frees an electron by colour, not brightness, because colour is the depth of one arrival and brightness only the number of them — and no pile of shallow arrivals sums to one deep enough to reach the electron's address.

The Bending of Light at the Sun

In 1919 Eddington photographed starlight bent as it grazed the eclipsed Sun, by about 1.75 arcseconds — the measurement that made Einstein famous. The Force of Time reproduces it exactly and reads its cause completely differently: no curved spacetime, no pull. The deflection is 1.750830053″ = 17.28/π², reached by two completely independent roads that share no starting point and yet meet on the same figure — one built from the speed of light and the fine-structure constant, the other from the Sun's own mass with no light in it at all.

Newton's falling corpuscle predicted half; general relativity's curved space predicted exactly twice Newton, and got the number — but read the cause as spacetime bending around mass.

The Sun is the time-source of its register; the eclipse does not reveal a deflection but creates the condition to measure it, by interrupting the broadcast whose geometry does the bending. The bend is the shadow of that interruption — no pull.

The Reddening of the Sky — the Universe Is Not Expanding

Distant galaxies arrive redder, and the farther the galaxy the redder its light. Science read this as a Doppler shift, concluded the galaxies are fleeing, and built the expanding universe. The Force of Time denies the assumption at its root: light does not redden because its source is fleeing, but because the field it crosses is discrete — organised into registers separated by seams, and a photon loses one quantum of wavelength at each seam. The reddening is a count of seams, not a velocity: z = n × δseam.

A falsifiable prediction no expanding model makes: redshifts should not form a smooth cloud but pile up at the {2,3}-smooth lattice nodes z = 2/3, 3/5, 5/4, 2, 3, 5 — the discrete rungs of the seam-ladder. A smooth expansion cannot cluster; a discrete field must.

And the famous crack in the expanding picture — the Hubble tension, the split between ~67.4 and ~73.0 — dissolves. Both numbers are one local quantity read two ways: the radius of the Earth you are standing on, read as a diameter and as a volume, from a turning world. When the number meant to measure the swelling of the cosmos turns out to be the size of your own planet, there is nothing swelling.

The Double Slit, Refraction, and Maxwell

The double slit — a node, a field, a helix

There is no wave that is also a particle. There is a standing node — the arrival, the dot on the screen — and the field, which threads both slits. The interference is the superposition of the two coherent paths; the arrival registers only at the screen. Put a detector at a slit and you force the arrival early, and the pattern is lost — not because looking jostles a particle, but because a redistribution registered at one slit can no longer overlap the other. And the Force of Time changes the answer testably: every fringe sits outward by the lattice helix ratio r = 5⁶/(2⁶·3⁵) = 1.0046939300 — the same turn as the DNA helix.

Refraction — the medium is the clock

Light slows in glass not because a traveller is held back but because the glass is a denser clock: the refractive index n is a Τ-time-dilation — how much more slowly the field's addresses take their turn inside the medium (water n = 4/3, glass ≈ 3/2). Dispersion is the medium being a subtly different clock for each colour-address, and that is the whole of the prism and the rainbow.

Maxwell — one field, four pages

Maxwell's four equations are not the laws of a separate force but the wave equations of the one field. The electric and magnetic fields are two strands of one substance; Lenz's minus sign is dΣΤ=0 in differential form; the speed of light emerges rather than being assumed, from μ₀ = 2²π×10⁻⁷. And the fine-structure constant, unexplained for a century, is derived: α = 9/125π², so that 1/α = 137.0778389 — the same number written into the 105.0498032° bend of water (14400·α).

A note on “the speed of light.” Within the Universal Force of Time there is no single, universal speed of light. What conventional physics fixes as the constant is one reading, taken from the turning surface we happen to observe from, midway between the register faces the field actually wears. These are not constants; they are the values Τ wears at the place from which we look.

Nothing on this page was pulled, attracted, or curved. There is one substance — time — flowing from the sparse toward the dense, and light is only the order in which its addresses take their turn.
