Time as Substance: Causality and the Arrow of Time

From dΣΤ = 0 to the Direction of Becoming

Standard physics treats time as a background dimension. FOT treats time as the substance itself — Tau flows; Tau IS the flow. The arrow of time emerges not from statistical entropy but from the helical winding direction of the Tau standing wave. Causality is Tau-address ordering, not a primitive relation imposed on events.

The Arrow of Time — Helical Winding Direction

PAST
Encoded Tau-addresses
Real but causally inert — phase information in the standing wave. Cannot be changed.
PRESENT
Wave-Front
Local leading edge. Causally active.
FUTURE
Structural but open
Determined in wave structure; open at Tau-indeterminacy branch points.
→→→ Helical winding direction (Τ-flow)

Six Propositions · P-TCAUS-1 to P-TCAUS-6

P-TCAUS-1
Time Is Not a Container

Tau does not flow through time — Tau IS the flow. There is no background clock ticking behind physical events. Remove all matter and you remove all time.

P-TCAUS-2
Arrow of Time from Helical Winding

The arrow of time is the helical winding direction of the Tau standing wave — a geometric necessity, not a statistical accident. Entropy increase is a consequence, not the cause.

P-TCAUS-3
Causality as Tau-Address Ordering

A precedes B if and only if A's Tau-address lies earlier in the helical wave than B's. Causation is not a primitive — it is derived from the geometry of Tau.

P-TCAUS-4
The Present Moment as Wave-Front

The present is the local Tau wave-front at a given Tau-address. The block universe is the global view; the present is the local view. Both are valid aspects of Tau.

P-TCAUS-5
Time Travel and Tau-Conservation

Past-directed time travel is forbidden by dΣΤ = 0. Future-directed travel (faster Tau-rate at a local address) corresponds to relativistic time dilation in Tau terms.

P-TCAUS-6
Tau-Realism

Past Tau-addresses are encoded in the standing wave as phase information — real but causally inert. Future addresses are structurally determined but open in Tau-indeterminacy.

Core Laws

P-TCAUS-2 · Arrow of Time
The arrow of time in FOT is not statistical but structural: Tau-flow has a preferred direction because the standing wave is helical. A helix has a handedness — it winds in one direction only. The arrow of time is the arrow of the helical winding of Tau.
P-TCAUS-5 · Time Travel Forbidden
Past-directed time travel would require reducing the local Tau-address without reducing the global standing wave — violating dΣΤ = 0. You cannot subtract Tau-flow from the present without adding it elsewhere. Tau-conservation forbids it absolutely.
