The number that bends a straw in a glass of water is the number that sets how fast you age. Inside water, time runs at exactly three-quarters.
Science gives water a refractive index, n = 4/3, and says light travels at three-quarters of its air speed inside. The Universal Force of Time reads the number more deeply. n is the medium's time-dilation factor: light slows in water because Τ — time itself, the one substance — flows more slowly there, at 1/n of its vacuum rate. Everything inside water runs on that slower clock.
The media life uses sit exactly on the lattice and are evenly spaced by 1/6: water 4/3 (time at 3/4), the glass-like lens 3/2 (2/3), calcite shell 5/3 (3/5).
The body is about 65% water. It lives in two registers at once: the air outside at the full rate, the water inside at 3/4. The 25% gap between them is ageing — the slow imposition of the fast outer clock on the slow inner chemistry. The Greenland shark, wholly immersed in cold deep water with no split between its registers, lives past 400 years.
Before birth the fetus lives in water, on the water clock alone. The first breath is when the air register arrives. Birth is the start of the two clocks, and so the start of ageing.
The observer counts nine months in air: 270 days, 6,480 hours. The fetus lives them on the water clock.
4,860 hours carries 486, the node of hydrogen's line of life. 17,496,000 seconds carries 1.7496, which times the 703 step is 1.75083005333959669055023712426 arcseconds — the Sun's bending of starlight.
The water-clock parts are those held in water most completely: the amniotic fluid, the vitreous humour of the eye, the cerebrospinal fluid, the blood plasma, the cytoplasm. The vitreous humour, sealed and almost pure water, is the natural place to test a water-clock rate.
